8/6 switched reluctance motor drive

A battery-fed 1.5 kW SRM drive with hysteresis current control and a speed loop.

Rotor speed, torque, phase currents and battery current through a load step
1000 rpm with a 2 → 8 N·m load step
Inductance profile, flux-linkage curves and static torque of the 8/6 SRM
Machine characterisation

Aim

Build a 4-phase 8/6 SRM drive with an asymmetric half-bridge converter, saturating flux-linkage tables, angle commutation and an outer speed loop, then test a load step.

What you’ll learn

  • Inductance and flux-linkage profiles of an SRM, with saturation
  • Asymmetric half-bridge converters and hysteresis current control
  • Turn-on and turn-off angles
  • Speed control through a load step

How to run it in MATLAB Online

  1. Unzip the package we send you.
  2. Go to matlab.mathworks.com and sign in (campus licence or MathWorks trial).
  3. In MATLAB Drive, click Upload and choose the unzipped folder.
  4. In MATLAB Online, open the folder and double-click the model (.slx) or run the start script named in README.
  5. Press Run. Results appear in the scopes, dashboard or figures.
