50 kW SRM drive: angle control vs torque sharing

A 50 kW switched reluctance traction drive with two controllers compared side by side in a MATLAB app.

Aim

Run angle control and a torque-sharing function (TSF) on the same 50 kW 8/6 SRM model at equal mean torque, and compare ripple, current and losses.

What you’ll learn

  • Sizing an SRM's inductance from torque and voltage limits
  • Angle (current-chopping) control vs torque-sharing functions
  • Linear, cubic, sinusoidal and exponential sharing functions
  • Torque ripple, copper loss and switching loss trade-offs

How to run it in MATLAB Online

  1. Unzip the package we send you.
  2. Go to matlab.mathworks.com and sign in (campus licence or MathWorks trial).
  3. In MATLAB Drive, click Upload and choose the unzipped folder.
  4. In MATLAB Online, open the folder and double-click the model (.slx) or run the start script named in README.
  5. Press Run. Results appear in the scopes, dashboard or figures.
