EV PMSM drive with SiC inverter: FOC + MTPA vs PID

A rear-drive EV powertrain where two motor controllers are compared on the same vehicle and drive cycle.

Aim

Compare field-oriented control with MTPA against a conventional PID controller on one PMSM traction drive with a SiC inverter, from battery and precharge to the wheels.

What you’ll learn

  • Field-oriented control, MTPA and field weakening
  • How a PMSM drive's controller changes current, losses and efficiency
  • Battery, HV contactors, precharge and DC link in an EV powertrain
  • Fault injection and drive protection
